In accordance with its mission to support and bring awareness to programs in Northwest Ohio focused on improving the lives of terminally ill children, women with breast cancer, and children with disabilities, the Gretchen Gotthart Skeldon Fund Advisory Committee met on February 17, 2011, to present letters of commitment to three local charitable organizations.

The Advisory Committee announced that Komen Northwest Ohio will receive $6,000 to be used in conjunction with the CareNet program to provide screening and diagnostic mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women in Lucas County.

The Committee also proudly committed $6,000 to the Sunshine Children's Home Respite Care Program. The Sunshine Children's Home, located in Lucas County, offers residential and support services to children with developmental disabilities and their families.  Families with special needs children living at home reap great rewards but face daily challenges, and the Respite Care Program offers temporary residential care for these children, providing a needed break for parents and families who provide daily care.

In addition, The Fund Advisory Committee was honored to present $6,000 to Make-A-Wish of Northwest Ohio. This donation will establish the Gretchen Gotthart Skeldon Wish, and will be used to grant the wish of a child suffering from a medically life threatening illness in honor and recognition of her work with that organization. The first recipient of the Gretchen Gotthart Skeldon Wish will be Jonathan, currently a freshman at Ohio State University who recently battled Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), missing a large portion of his senior year in high school. Read Jonathan's story here.

All of these funds will stay in Northwest Ohio to have maximum impact in our local community. In just one year, the Gretchen Gotthart Skeldon Fund has raised $57,000. Many volunteers and community leaders are proud to support the great work that Gretchen started in her lifetime. Through events and individual contributions, the Fund will continue to grow in 2011.

The Gretchen Gotthart Skeldon Fund will host its second annual fundraising event on August 26, 2011, at Centennial Terrace. "Fashionably Late" will again host the ever-popular Watermelon Men and The Homewreckers. It promises to be another rockin' summer night in support of a great local cause for all who attend.
